Gimme Shelter

Pre-Run

Spent a good part of my work day lost in thought about getting out for a run in the pm. Global warming was in effect today with January temps near 70 and strong spring-like storms in the forecast, didn't want to delay getting my endorphin fix.

Had to stop for some grocery items and hit the beer store on the way to the park...

Course

...took the touring road to shelby's landing boat ramp with a couple loops around the "cc" camp area and then finished with some randomness around the big camp ground to flesh out the mileage...

The Run

...flat course meant no walk breaks and an easy/steady pace...completed 3.8 miles in 37:17 (9:49 pace)

Wildlife

...not much to speak of...spotted a gaggle of geese out over the water from a distance...haven't seen a deer at all in my two visits this week...

Nuts & Bolts

...kicked it in my new balance mt 1010 shoes...breathing was fine and no worries physically...tried to envision running a good race this weekend at the Icy 8

Recovery Beer

Icehouse Edge Tall Boy = Refreshing!

Random Run Note

...with storm clouds in place, a mild wind blowing strong and a kinda-sorta creepiness in the air, I heard the Stones' Gimme Shelter guitar intro playing in my head...all for naught though, as the storm held off and even caught a glimpse of blue sky at the finish...Running is Fun

Goose Music

Pre-Run

Walked out of the school building to sunshine and really mild temps in the mid 60s this afternoon. Couldn't wait to get my run on! Saw another regular Jug Bay visitor in the parking area as I made like Clark Kent switching from work clothes to my running duds. Wondered how many others would show on this glorious day...

Course

...up the camp hill  and down the orange trail over to Merkle...took the touring road up to the Goose Music turnaround for an out and back...

The Run

...first two miles were slower over 10min/mile pace but found another gear and pumped out three miles at more of a training pace...

Wildlife

...blue heron took off in flight as I crossed the merkle bridge as did two or three ducks...the geese weren't as plentiful in the fields, but I spotted many flocks in flight...and they were noisy about it!

Nuts & Bolts

...some tightness in left quad...noticed my new salomon shoes didn't feel quite as comfortable as my first run in them last week...

Recovery Beer

Second Wind...a nice pale ale picked up in North Carolina recently

Random Run Note

Goose Music in honor of the hill where I did a turnaround as well as the racket the live ones were causing in flight...as I was dryingoff post run I did hear what I thought to be gun shots in the distance...hope all the geese made a clean getaway!

No Mojo

Pre-Run

Quiet ride to the park. Listened to new Yo La Tengo tunes...chill music to prep for a run

Conditions: . Saw a group of vehicles wating at the main gate. The gate was locked for the scenic road too whenootprints i I started my run.

Lovely Sunday morning. Bright sunrise and cold temps. Light-filtered trails waking up up with a light snow blanket.

Course

Ran two loops on my personal 50K course...alternated these loops with a couple of loops on the backside trails...

The Run

Not feeling my so chippy this morning...early on I decide it's going to be a run-hike-run affair today. Felt better at times but never came all the way around.

Nevertheless, two hours running in the woods improves my mood. Completed

Wildlife

Deer and geese aplenty.

Recovery Beer

Budweiser

Run Note

Don't Eat The Yellow Snow
