Calm Before The Snowstorm Run

Pre-Run

…it's testing time in maryland public schools and news of the looming “Snowquester” has me eagerly anticipating a trail run…

Course

…stuck to the trails: orange to blue then the green loop back to blue and a finish on the yellow trail back to base…

Nuts & Bolts

…sunny when I pulled out from campus but the storm clouds were rolling in to filter out the sun by the time I started running…it was a brisk 43 degrees…

The Run

...ran in bursts with hike breaks…kept pace under 11min/miles…trails were sloppy in places but in overall good shape…5.14 miles in 55:49…

Random Thoughts

…a snow day off would be welcome!

Wildlife

...scattered deer roaming in the woods on a couple of occasions

Sunday Long Run

…as spry as I ran yesterday I was equally dull today

…a moody overcast sky with a few sun peeks

...winter time cold

...stray snowflakes

...sleepy and tired

...take it easy with long slow distance workout run and hike mix

...wildlife watch: noticed an owl noticing me and sent geese off in flight on two occasions once from the water and once from land

...ran out to the orange trail to red-sky blue-blue then I picked up the 10K race course…not much evidence that a race was run here yesterday

...did an out and back on the green trail straight-a-way to add some mileage...1148 calories burned

...one of those days but Running is Fun!

Saturday Sunrise Run

…started a minute before 7am

…overcast cold and sunrise

...quiet morning in the neighborhood

...after two days of hiking, it's back to a training-paced run

...ran 5.2 miles in 47:15 just about race pace for me

...found the cold air to be the perfect wake-me-up

...hooked up my iClip today

...particularly enjoyed hearing the PJ Harvey tune “Good Fortune”...

...Running is Fun!

Welcome Weekend

Pre-Run

…in a TGIF frame of mind…made a beer store stop

Course

…covered the QOC 10K race course

Nuts & Bolts

…overcast and cold at 43 degrees…bundled in layers…enjoyed the peace & quiet…

The Run

…10K distance in 1 hour 22 minutes 56 seconds…covered the race course…trails look well-groomed and signage is all in place…stuck with the power hike workout…nice opportunity to unwind…kicked it in a pair of retired Salomon’s

Random Thoughts

…remembered running the 2012 10K trail race…and going for 140 miles in March

Wildlife

...friendly dog walker with a couple of pooches who looked like they were eager for a run…a wild squirrel spoiled some quiet trail time

…getting toward the end of a long week…looking forward to the trail but kinda fatigued

Nuts & Bolts

…partly cloudy to overcast with a few peeks of sun...the long day at work had me beat down enough to go with a power hike today...temp was 46 degrees

The Run

…10K distance in 1 hour 26 minutes 3 seconds…just what I needed to clear my mind...773 calories…finished February at 104 miles….16 less than monthly mileage goal…

Sunset Hiking

Used the first three days of the week for a day of rest sandwiched between a couple of sunset workouts on the mean streets of Port Republic...

Monday at sunset was clear and crisp hiked just a little over 2 miles around the barn and field...by the time I finished the Full Snow Moon was out and rising

This evening I was out at dusk for a quick down and back on Howard Drive 2.4 fast paced miles and burned 339 calories...
